Kinja'd!!!

Both my original Arnie Seiko and my old Seiko dress watch died this fall, and my family bought me a watch for Christmas. It was a Citizen and, while a nice watch, it wasn’t me. So I returned it and used the cash to buy this, a Seiko 7s26-0020 200m diver.

Kinja'd!!!

I really knew very little about the watch when I bought it. I just liked the way it looked. I was surprised when I ordered it from Amazon and it shipped from London. When I set it, I realized that I could have the day of the week in either English or Arabic. I opted for English. I also didn’t realize until I got it that it is automatic, or self-winding. I probably would have gone with something quartz if I had been paying attention, since it gains about a minute a day. I believe that has something to do with its automatic-ness. I ’ll also never have to buy a battery. But I’m okay with adjusting it each morning.

Interestingly, I’ve found very little information about this model. Did I buy a knockoff?

Anyway, I like it.

I’d say its the genuine article. I have a similar Seiko diver, not sure of the model number, but it looks almost identical and has the Arabic/English wording on the date. I assume it has to do with the markets Seiko intends it to be sold in (ex-British territories and mandates in the Middle East where both languages are used).   I believe mine came from Long Island Watch, but its been a few years, so not positive.

Nice Seiko!

Most of my watches at this point are Seiko 5 Automatics of some sort. All of my Seiko 5s are refurbished from India. Textured Soy Protein is the one who tipped me off to these . The movements are genuine, but everything else is questionable. They’ve been surprisingly good, however the olive faced Seiko is a bit fickle to keep ticking. But these are dirt cheap, so it doesn’t bother me - and, that makes it easy to wear out and about.

All of mine can be set to either Arabic or English - that caught me off guard with the first one. At this point, I don’t bother trying to keep everything at the correct time at the same time . I typically pick the one I’m going to wear for a few days and set the time and date then.

The whole group, rounded out by two Casio Wave C eptors that are 100% genuine. I haven’t worn them in a while.

This watch is pretty much my only decent working watch. Which is fine, because I love the way it looks. I might put a silver metal band on it, or swap out the band from my old Arnie.

My smart watch needs a new battery, so I went to grab one of my other watches and discovered they all need new batteries. In a pure coincidence, I found my Casio G-Shock dive watch hiding in my closet. It’s been missing for five or six years. Of course, the battery was dead too - or so I thought. I hit one of the buttons and the digital screen came back to life! I forgot that it was a solar watch, so one day under a lamp and it’s as good as new. :) T he really amazing thing was that it was only a couple hours off.

It’s not dressy enough for work, so I’m still on the hook for a few batteries.

Was this a new watch? If so, the automatics can take a while to break in. I’ve had a coupe of Seikos, and being off an amount similar to you describe in the beginning has happened on both. On both of mine, give it a few months and they break in to be really accurate.

Congrats on a great looking watch.  Being an throughly digital person that earns my living as an IT and radio telemetry type, I enjoy that fact that I wear a completely mechanical watch with no battery.

I am an analog man in a digital world. I don’t like digital watches, and I don’t like the digital speedo in my wife’s car. While digital watches do a great job of telling you the time right NOW, they do a lousy job of giving you a sense of the relationship of where you are in time to earlier or later times, if that makes any sense. You can glance at an analog watch and say, “Oh, I’ve got that much time” without having to do the math. I’ve never had an auto watch before (this was new afaik, came in box with literature ) , and I really like the idea of it. Let’s hope it does break in as you say. But either way, I’m perfectly happy adjusting it each morning. I’m thrilled with the looks of it.

These Seiko SKX007s are very popular in the watch collecting world. I had one on a steel bracelet for awhile. Mine ran a little fast as it’s one of Seiko’s cheaper automatic movements. I currently have one of the Seiko Presage Cocktail dress watches and its <-1 sec per day.

Working on understanding all this. SKX007 is the movement, where is the model of watch? I saw that SKX number elsewhere, but didn’t know what it means.

It’s the model. 7S26 is the movement number. This and the SKX009 (same watch but  blue dial/blue and red bezel) have been around for a long time

I totally get that. I also dislike digital watches and gauges. As much as I’m a data guy, analog displays do a way better job of communicating information at a glance. They also con vey scale at a glance, and I think there is value in that.

I guess I’m confused because SKX doesn’t appear anywhere on the case.

I’ve worn this model watch for maybe 10 years now. Seiko Kinetic Auto Relay. My main complaint is that the face is a bit hard to read with the shiny blue machine turned dial. It is an electric automatic that never needs batteries or winding. If you set it down and don’t use it, it will stop running but continue to keep time (for up to a year IIRC) and then when you pick it up again, it sets itself back to the correct time. Very nifty. I just wanted a watch I could wear and never-ever have to wind or charge or get batteries for and it fit the bill.

They also covey scale at a glance

Great way of putting it. That’s exactly what I mean.

Funny, I hadn’t even noticed. I just C/P it. There is beer and Rogue One here tonight. Great movie. IMO, best SW movie  since 1977.

I'm actually a good proof reader of other people's writing, but I can't proof read my own writing to save my life.  My brains knows what I meant...

Nice!  I have the same watch.  You have now motivated me to get a new band.  Wore it so much the latch broke.

I think it only shows the movement number on the case since the model numbers change with strap and dial on all of their watches. Here’s an article for reference.

I read somewhere that if you want to proof your own work, you should change the font. I had to write a treatise for my doctorate, and I must have read that damned thing a hundred times. When I was printing it out in sections, I found a typo on the top page of one of the sections. I left it.

On some level, that makes sense to me.  Put it in some crazy italics or that like that isn't easy to read so that you're brain is having to pay attention to what is there instead of just going along with what it thinks you put there.

If it’s running a minute fast per day it may be magnetized. Get a de-gauss machine on amazon for under $40 and run the cycle. The SKX is a work horse of a watch.

Bingo. If it’s new it’ll have to break in. Normal for a 7S26 or even the 4R35.

That’s neat!

I have an older Fossil that looks similar, but lacks the fancy technology. The watch and band are stainless, but the clasp has nickel in it and I’m allergic to it. I have to put nail polish on the clasp to keep it from irritating my wrist.

You can adjust the regulator if you open the back of the watch. I have a 7S26 movement Seiko as well. It can easily be off by a minute a day. With careful adjustments of the regulator you can get it to within a a couple seconds per day.
